A guide to customizing your car : tips and videos
The first step in customizing - custom car rims
Custom car rims are one of the most popular customizing choices today. Easy to fit, and at the budget end of the spectrum cheap to buy, rims are something that can make a big impact for little outlay of time and money. Rims are available in numerous finishes, and while chrome is the most popular for aftermarket (not the part supplied when the car was first bought) colours, metallics such as silver, bronze and graphite, and even spinning rims are available. . If you are unsure what options you should be considering, you should have a talk with the employees at your local auto parts supplier, who should be able to give you an idea of what is possible with your car and budget. There are also many suppliers that sell via the internet, but the costs of postage/couriering and insurance can make that online bargain into a very expensive option. Many manufacturers will have online catalogues for you to browse if you are completely unaware of what is available.
The most important consideration when buying rims is the size, as they must be suitable for the wheel size. Plus sizing can improve performance: with a larger inner diameter, you steering will be more responsive and hug the road better. You will have to buy new tyres if you are buying rims at a size larger than you currently have, as the outer diameter of the tyre may remain the same but the inner diameter around the rim will need to be bigger. It is often possible to buy rim/wheel and tyre sets at competitive prices, and this should mean that everything is the right size first go. A 17-18" wheel/tyre combination is often the best in terms of looks and performance.
