A guide to customizing your car : tips and videos
So you want to customize cars...
These days, the past time of wanting to customize cars is a huge business as well as hobby, with a multitude of sub-groups, from urban customizers to street rods, V8 muscle cars to classic roadsters. Customizing can be as simple as adding a new set of wheels to building your own custom vehicle from scratch - the possibilities are almost endless, limited only by your budget and imagination.
Parts sold for modifying cars after they are first sold are often known as 'aftermarket', as opposed to spare parts for repairing. These are the backbone of customizing - the modified rims, the spoilers, the new hood. Adding different parts is not the only way to customize your car. You can change your vehicles look completely with a new paint job. Some car customizers are more interested in performance than appearance, souping up engines or improving aerodynamics. Others just want to look good, searching for the perfect decals and co-ordinating custom interior. The choice is totally up to you.
If you are new to the world of custom cars there are various ways to find information about your new pursuit. Many areas have custom car clubs, some dealing with specific eras or models, others more general and open to anyone interested in modifying their vehicle. These can be a great place to start, offering not only suggestions and technical information, but often have a huge in-club market for parts and supplies. If you don't have the option of joining a club where you are, there are many online clubs where members are more than happy to walk you through the first steps of customizing a car. There are also thousands of web sites dedicated to car customizing, offering pictures, instructions, suggestions and inspiration. Most parts manufacturers now have web sites, and there are numerous companies that sell custom car equipment and supplies via the internet.
